Any oppo’s using Project Fi? For those of you not familiar it’s Google’s carrier that operates on T-Mobile, Spring and US Cellular. $20/mo and $10/GB and you only pay for what you use, so 1.2GB is $12.

I bought myself a used Pixel XL, anyone use that particular phone? I’m excited to try this all out!

One of the big draws for me is that PFi works internationally and I travel to Europe usually at least once a year and end up buying a prepaid sim there. One more awesome thing is that you can get additional data only sims for basically any device that you can get it to work on! So I’m going to pop one into my Note 4 just to have a backup phone, it’ll essentially be a whole ‘nother phone thanks to google voice. Since those devices don’t support carrier switching I believe it’ll operate only on T-Mobile.

I used to have it and loved it. Worked great in Europe

I switched from Verizon to Fi. I have wifi at work and home, and average about $30 /mo. I’ve used it in Spain, Belgium, and France with no problem connecting.

There are a few (very few) spots where I’d get signal on Verizon but don’t now. Mostly middle of nowhere back roads. I’m in central Ohio, if that helps.

Started with the Nexus 6p, now have a pixel 2xl. My wife has a pixel, she likes it a lot.

I wouldn’t go back.

Picked up a Pixel for myself and a Moto X4 for my mom to use with Project Fi. So far, so good but we are also very light data users. Referrals are nice too, my phone bill last month was $3.

Haven’t tried it internationally yet, will find out how that works in July.

I wasn’t aware of the data-only sim and international bit. Hmmmm......

yeah, without that information it’s just an okay deal, since the data isn’t the cheapest around (although you’ll never pay more than $60 for data, making this essentially a $80/mo unlimited plan). But with the data sims and the international bit, it really sets it apart in a couple of ways.

Why’d you switch away from pfi?

I may be Fi’s biggest fan on the board. I signed up as soon as it was announced. Our bill went from $100/mo for 2 phones to about $40/mo. We don’t use a lot of data, but there weren’t (at the time) plans that allowed you to have some data and not screw you if you went over, except for T-Mo, but it was still a lot.

I can offer a referal link if you like, get’s you $20 off your first bill.

Because my whole family uses iPhones and it’s just easier to not be the odd one out

I just priced it out and it’s on average it’s about the same as my current plan.

I have a Galaxy S5, but just ordered an S8+ yesterday ($26.66/mo)

I average 2-5GB/mo

With Verizon:

$20 (Phone plan charge) + $35 (5GB plan) + $27 (S8+) + $4 (Tax) = $86

With Fi:

$20 (call n text) +$20-50 (Data) + $27 (Pixel) + $4 (Tax) = $71-101

For me it’s not worth the switch. I’m not a huge fan of Verizon, but it still looks like the better option for me.

I switched from Verizon to Fi about 9 months ago and haven’t looked back. It’s great to only be paying $26 per month for my usage and Fi’s customer service is second to none. Last fall they had an issue where data usage wasn’t being metered correctly for some people and instead of sweeping it under the rug they refunded all data usage that month for everyone. Verizon would make you call them 10 times and sit on hold for 3 days before telling you to fuck off.

Did almost the same switch as you - Verizon to Project Fi early last year on a Pixel XL. Pretty satisfied especially having data internationally (Mexico, Taiwan, South Korea). Don’t forget about the “bill protection” thing where they stop charging you for data after 6 GB.

I had a referral link and intend to refer my dad, so that’ll get my $40 right there! Or something like 1 and 1/3 months free, haha.

I’m so excited to get my sim, haha, my Pixel XL just arrived today. Love the phone so far from the little bit I’ve used it.

Fi would be worth the switch if you’d value the fact that it works almost anywhere in the world AND that you get the ability to add data-only sim at no additional cost (except for the increased data use).

I’m surprised they aren’t already in Canada given that it’s a large enough market directly neighboring their current market.

yeah that protection is a nice feature, although I sincerely hope I’ll never hit that number, haha. But still hitting it once or twice a year would still be cheaper than my $60/mo Verizon bill. Over the course of a year.

Probably has to do with the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. Like our FCC, but even dumber.

Hmm, they maybe have a problem with carriers operating on the backs of other carriers?

I put my international travelling execs on it, performs extremely well overseas, but go figure in this bass ackwards country (US) signal is so spotty and unreliable in rural regions.

I’ve had for just over 2 months now, I’m very happy so far.

I haven’t been to many rural areas yet, we’ll see how that goes here in Michigan, I’ve got a few trips planned.
